The NeurFlow Workflow Engine

IDE-style orchestration and debugging

NeurFlow is Neurova's visual workflow engine. It lifts workflows from "a configuration file" to "a visual IDE", covering the whole lifecycle: design, debug, publish and roll back.

Core capabilities

CapabilityDescriptionStatus
Visual canvasDrag-and-drop node orchestration (start / end / task / condition / parallel / subflow)Implemented
Debugging walkerAn add-on mock engine with step and skip execution, and local variable inspectionImplemented
Version snapshots and rollbackContent fingerprints, status preservation, rollbacks recorded in historyImplemented
Trigger systemCron scheduling and inbound webhooks (HMAC-SHA256 with a token bucket)Implemented
SubflowNesting depth ≤ 5 with cycle detectionImplemented
Agent compilationWorkflow → AgentManifest (pure functions with dependency injection)Implemented
Security auditWebhook delivery audit records with historical reviewImplemented

Workflow node types

[start] → [task A] → [condition] ─┬─ yes → [task B] → [subflow] → [end]
                                   │
                                   └─ no → [task C] → [end]

Debugging IDE features

  • Breakpoints: pause execution at any node
  • Mock value injection: skip real execution and return a preset value to exercise downstream nodes
  • Version drawer: compare historical versions and roll back
  • Trigger configuration drawer: set up cron expressions and webhook signing
  • Execution trace: a complete node-level record of every run

Building on the visual canvas

NeurFlow provides a visual workflow canvas: drag nodes into place to assemble a complete workflow without writing code.

1. Open the canvas

  • After signing in to NeurUI, go to Collaboration → NeurFlow → Workflows
  • Click "New workflow" for an empty canvas, or pick a preset from the template library

2. Drag and assemble

ActionDescription
Drop a nodeDrag start / end / task / condition / parallel / subflow nodes from the left panel onto the canvas
ConnectPull a wire from a node's right-hand port to the next node
PanHold space and drag, or scroll vertically and shift-scroll horizontally
Marquee selectDrag across empty canvas to select several nodes and move or delete them together
Copy and pasteSelect a node and use Ctrl+C / Ctrl+D to copy, Ctrl+V to paste (child nodes optional)
MinimapA minimap in the lower right; click it to jump around the view
Full screenEnter focus mode with the full-screen button

3. Configure nodes

  • Task nodes: pick a skill or tool and fill in parameters (LLM prompts may reference context variables)
  • Condition nodes: set branch conditions (for example {status} == success); expressions can reference node output
  • Subflow nodes: select an existing workflow as a subflow, with nesting depth ≤ 5 and cycle detection
  • Sub-blocks: collapse and expand node groups, with expressions controlling group visibility

4. The natural language designer

Beyond dragging, you can describe a workflow in plain language, and CanvasNLDesigner parses it into a canvas:

user input → intent recognition → knowledge base retrieval → generate answer → review → output

5. Debugging a run

  • Breakpoints: right-click a node to set one, and execution pauses there
  • Mock engine: preset node return values and skip real execution to test downstream
  • Step and skip: walk node by node inspecting variables, or skip and continue
  • Execution trace: after a run, inspect the full node-level timeline of inputs, outputs and durations

6. Publishing and versions

  • Click "Publish" to compile the workflow into an AgentManifest that agents can call
  • Version drawer: browse history, diff versions, roll back in one click
  • Trigger drawer: bind cron schedules or webhook (HMAC-signed) inbound triggers

Usage

# API endpoints
GET /api/v1/neurflow/workflows # list workflows
POST /api/v1/neurflow/workflows # create a workflow
POST /api/v1/neurflow/workflows/{id}/run # execute a workflow
POST /api/v1/neurflow/triggers # create a trigger (cron / webhook)
